Existing services in NSW

There is a variety of service providers in NSW that provides support and resources for refugees so that they can achieve their potential of becoming full members of the Australian society. Our mission is to create a connection between people and service providers in order to improve resettlement.  The services we have recommended on this page are all run by accredited organisations in compliance with ACNC.

Counselling and psychological assistance

  • Service for the Treatment of Torture and Trauma Survivors (STARTTS)

STARTTS offers specialist refugee trauma counselling throughout different locations in NSW. Find more information about this here. They also offer special expertise on older refugees which you can read about here, and younger refugees which you can learn more about here.

Employment services

  • Ignite Small Business Start-Ups

Initiative ran by SSI assisting people with refugee backgrounds who wish to start their own business, or expand an already existing business. For more information, click here.

  • The Refugee Employment Support Program (RESP)

Program ran by SSE which seeks to support refugees and asylum seekers with challenges related to finding sustainable and skilled employment opportunities. To read more about this, click here.

  • Humanitarian Settlement Services (HSS)

HSS seeks to support refugees in every aspect that is needed in order to settle successfully in Australia, which include employment support, language support and support for vulnerable groups such as women and youth. Click here to read more about this.

Health services

  • NSW Refugee health service

The NSW Refugee health service operates weekly in Liverpool, Blacktown and Auburn, and monthly in Fairfield and Mt Druitt. Their services are free and do not require a Medicare card. For more information click here.

Language services

  • Interpreting services

This is a free service which is available for eligible visa holders for the first two years after entry. For more information, click here.

  • Translating services

Free service to assist refugees with translation of personal documents to English, this is available for the first two years after entry. Read more here.

Legal assistance

  • Family reunion clinic

Unit ran by RACS, which is a legal center that provide free, specialist legal assistance for people seeking asylum and refugees who are seeking to reunite with their families. At this center they help refugees with the process to seek to reunite with a family member and/or a partner. Read more about that here.
